An exhibition titled ‘Adventures of Dutch tiles’ has opened in the head office of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg. The photo project a cooperation with the Hermitage.
In 2018, specialists of the museum made an expedition to the Netherlands. They took several hundred original Dutch tiles with them and were looking for views and landscapes that resemble those depicted on the tiles.
Yury Molodkovets, a photo artist of the Hermitage, took pictures of towns and villages, roads and transport, and household utensils. All the pictures are exhibited next to the original tiles.
Yury Molodkovets, a photo artist of the Hermitage: ‘When you look at a tile this way, you understand that it is a painting, you are fascinated by its artistic value. And it is a luck for a photographer to find a prototype’.
