Several concerts and music events will be held in St. Petersburg on the occasion.
The Beatles Day is celebrated worldwide on January 16. The date commemorating the legendary Liverpool band was established by UNESCO in 2001.
On this day, Alan Sitner, a jazz fan from Liverpool, opened The Cavern Club. First, jazz bands played there, but soon blues and rock musicians started to perform in the club.
The Beatles played in The Cavern on 292 nights during three years. The first performance was on February 9, 1961.
In St. Petersburg, The Beatles Day will be held for the 55th time already. On January 16, a concert will be held in the Aurora concert hall with musicians from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Finland participating.
On the same day, the ‘Honorary Beatles Fan’ Awards ceremony will be held. There are two nominations, one for musicians, singers and groups performing The Beatles’ music and the other for experts on The Beatles and journalists and writers who write about the group.
Another event on January 16 will be the ‘All You Need Is Love’ festival in which 16 music bands will participate.
